Dr. Catherine Havasi
Catherine is passionate about helping companies get business value from artificial intelligence and emerging technologies. For over 20 years she has been researching language and learning and was a research scientist in artificial intelligence and computational linguistics, including at the Media Lab where she ran the Digital Intuition group. In the late 90s, she co-founded the Common Sense Computing Initiative, or ConceptNet, a big-data lexical resource used in over two thousand academic projects and the first use of crowd-sourcing for AI. Through the Media Lab and her private consulting practices she has helped almost a hundred companies understand or operationalize artificial intelligence.
Catherine is also a speaker and thought leader in artificial intelligence. She’s a visiting scientist at MIT where she works on computational creativity, cognitive modeling, and digital characters. In recent years, she has been named by Fast Company as one of the "100 Most Creative People in Business" as well as one of Boston Business Journal’s "40 Under 40.” Catherine is also passionate about entrepreneurship: she is one of the founders of Luminoso, an AI based customer service and market research company, where she previously served as CEO. Dr. Havasi holds a PhD in Computer Science from Brandeis University and a MEng in Computer Science and Computer Engineering from MIT.
